BRIDGEWATER – The Bridgewater College women's basketball team will close out its pre-Christmas schedule when the Eagles host Hood College in the annual Toy Drive game on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
Fans can receive free admission to the contest by donating a new, unwrapped toy at the gate.
Hood enters the contest with a 3-3 overall record. The Blazers have lost two straight and three of their last four games. One of the losses occurred against ODAC foe Shenandoah as the Hornets downed the Blazers 74-58.
A pair of sophomores leads the Blazers in scoring. Mia Savoy, a forward, averages 13.0 points per game while guard Maggie Tien scores 10.3 points per contest.
Bridgewater is led in scoring by junior guard Briana Moore with a 12.6 scoring average. Senior center Kaitlyn Lehan adds 12.3 points and a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game and first-year guard Ahlia Moone contributes 10.3 points per contest.
The Eagles are riding a two-game winning streak and in each game the team rallied for wins with strong play in the final quarter.
Bridgewater outscored Emory & Henry 26-15 in the final 10 minutes to pick up its first ODAC win of the season, 74-68. This past Saturday the Eagles wiped out a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter by outscoring Apprentice 18-4 over the final 6:30 of the game to take a 73-69 road victory.
Hood and Bridgewater met twice during the 2016-17 season with the Eagles winning both times. Bridgewater travelled to Hood and took an 84-66 victory. Moore scored 17 points while Lehan posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sydni Carey added 11 points. The two teams met again at the Susan Dunagan Classic hosted by Roanoke College. The Eagles won that contest 74-55 with Moore pouring in 20 points and Rebecca Harvey adding 11. Lehan just missed another double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Following the Christmas break, the Eagles will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., for a pair of games in the Land of Magic Classic. Bridgewater opens play against Clark University on Dec. 28. The Eagles will play Bridgewater State on Dec. 29. Both games are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
