Three Eagles in Top 10 at Hollins Invite

DANIELS, W.V. - In a two-day event that played as separate tournaments, the Bridgewater College women's golf team completed an all individual tournament at Glades Spring Resort.

Played on the Cobb course, the 2017 Hollins Spring Invitational finished with a team victory on Sunday, followed by medalist honors and two more players in the top 10 on Monday.

Christina Herbert shot 1-under par, 72, to take the medal for the second day in a row, her sixth individual win for the season. Over two days she was 5-under, which would have been her best career two-day tournament score.

Danielle Cook shaved 10 strokes off her Sunday total, posting an excellent score of 80 despite a triple bogey and double bogey.

"I felt more comfortable with my swing today," said Cook. "I was able to hit many greens in regulation which made all of the difference." She had a birdie on the 11th hole and finished in eighth place in a 42-player field.

Amanda Kelley made a big jump from her Sunday score as well, dropping seven shots to shoot 81, good for ninth place.

"Everything came together today," said Kelley. "The practice I've put into my short game is starting to show." Kelley also took advantage of her length by playing the par 5s at 1-under today.

Casey Gaffney completed a very solid two-day effort with an 85, one shot better than Sunday. After a shotgun start, she birdied her final hole, the par-3 #7.

Jesse Bartley also improved on the second day of the Hollins Invite, shooting 89. She had five three-putts but had a better ball-striking day.

After a career day on Sunday, Meghan Morris finished up with a 119.

"Our team score today would have been 318, quite a bit better than our average and just the kind of thing we want to see as we prepare for the ODAC championship," said head coach John Rogers. "I was pleased with the effort the whole team made on this trip."
