BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team scored eight unanswered goals to pull away, defeating Birmingham-Southern 12-7 on Friday.
Freshman Dwyer Neal had a hat trick, while sophomore Anna O'Hara totaled two goals and five draw controls. Annie Sullivan and Kristen Stark added two goals apiece.
Bridgeawater trailed 5-4 late in the first half after two goals in under a minute by Birmingham's Natalie Daniel, before going on their big run.
Stark and Brittney Brown scored just 12 seconds apart to give the Eagles the lead heading into halftime.
Neal made it 7-5 and Sullivan added the only other goal of the opening 17 minutes of the second half.
Bridgewater then blew the game open with three goals in 1:36. O'Hara made it 9-5, Neal won the draw control and took it right down for another tally.
Erica Blubaugh won the ensuing draw and passed to Neal, who was fouled and converted her second free position goal in 44 seconds.
During that run, the Eagles went over 36 minutes without giving up a goal, as Rachel Gruber finished with 11 saves in the cage.
After Birmingham-Southern had taken a 3-0 lead in the opening five minutes. Stark got the Eagles on the board and Sullivan gave Bridgewater its first lead at 4-3 with 13:24 left in the opening period.
Daniel had game-highs in both goals (four) and draw controls (six) to lead Birmingham-Southern.
Bridgewater improves to 4-0 on the year and will play at Marymount in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday before beginning ODAC play.
