BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Freshmen Dwyer Neal and Shannon Rogers combined for half of Bridgewater's goal output as the Eagles defeated Greensboro 16-3 at home on Sunday.
Neal scored five times while Rogers recorded a hat trick. Senior Annie Sullivan totaled two goals and two assists.
Senior Rachel Gruber recorded 15 saves in the cage. Erica Blubaugh won six draw controls while Kayla O'Sullivan totaled three draw controls, four ground balls and a game-high three caused turnovers.
Bridgewater won 16-of-21 draws in the cage, and was a perfect 15-for-15 on clears.
The Eagles took the lead in just 16 seconds. Sarah Yashinskie won the draw and passed to Claire Palermo-Re behind the cage, who found a cutting Rogers to open the scoring.
Anna O'Hara hit the crossbar in the fourth minute of play, before scoring 22 seconds later on a one-touch shot from Sullivan's pass.
Sullivan then drew a charge on a Greensboro clear and found Palermo-Re wide open on the restart to make it 3-0. Greensboro scored on their first shot of the game with 22:01 left in the first half, but O'Hara quickly answered at the other end.
Rogers snuck a free position shot past the Pride goalkeeper late in the first half for a 9-2 lead, and Neal scored in transition to make it 10-2.
Neal's fourth goal of the contest came on an eight-meter shot soon after halftime. Sullivan scored unassisted with 25:45 remaining to push the lead to double-digits at 12-2.
The Eagles improve to 5-3 and will host Shenandoah on Tuesday night in a crucial ODAC clash. Greensboro is 6-6 on the year.
