Palermo-Re Becomes All-Time Career Assist Leader

Palermo-Re Becomes All-Time Career Assist Leader

Claire Palermo-Re became the all-time career assist leader in an 18-0 Bridgewater win over Sweet Briar at the Jopson Athletic Complex. Bridgewater College improves to 10-6 on the year.

Coming into today's contest, Palermo-Re needed only two assists to tie the record, but she proceeded to surpass that mark by tallying six assists in today's game. Palermo-Re set the new career mark when she assisted Phoebe Hart in the first half to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

Saturday's contest was Senior Day for five Bridgewater seniors, as they closed their careers with one final victory on their home turf. Annie Sullivan tallied a hat trick in the contest that saw 14 Eagles find the back of the net and four members of the team score their first goal of the season.

Bridgewater got off to a quick start as Kristen Stark found Anna O'Hara cutting to the net just 11 seconds into the contest. The Eagles wouldn't look back from that point on as they tallied seven goals in the game's first 10 minutes.

The Eagles won 17 draw controls and caused 14 turnovers which fueled their offensive attack.  Kayla O'Sullivan notched her first goal of the season with 7:08 left in the first half as she was assisted on the play by Palermo-Re. O'Sullivan's goal gave the Eagles a 11-0 advantage. Bridgewater took a 12-0 lead into halftime.

With the game out of reach for the Vixens, the Eagles looked to run off some clock to secure their tenth victory of the year in the second half. Tori Hudson, Mackenzie Parcell, and Katie Ellis all recorded their first goal of the season in the second half.

Bridgewater will be the #5 seed in next week's ODAC playoffs when they travel to face Lynchburg next Wednesday. A time has not been announced yet for that contest. Lynchburg defeated the Eagles 14-12 in the first round last year as the Bridgewater looks to avenge that loss.
