Women's Lax Shuts Down Salem

SALEM, N.C. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team recorded its third shutout in the past 18 games, defeating Salem 20-0 on Saturday.

Phoebe Hart and Sarah Waldburger each had hat tricks to lead the Eagles' scorers. Sarah Yashinskie and Shannon Rogers scored twice each, with Yashinskie adding an assist and four draw controls. Dwyer Neal totaled two goals, two assists, three draw controls and a game-high four caused turnovers.

Kristen Stark had a goal, two assists and three caused turnovers. Also scoring for the Eagles was Abby Houtz, Molly Lynch, Jodie Welsh, Anna O'Hara, Jacqueline DiFulvio, Olivia Carson and Kayla O'Sullivan (who had five draw controls).

Freshman goalie Mikaela Brooks recorded two saves in her first collegiate shutout.

Yashinskie scored twice in the opening 42 seconds and then assisted Stark for a 3-0 lead within the opening three minutes.

Rogers struck next with two goals, and two from Neal sandwiched a DiFulvio tally to make it 8-0 in the opening 9:01 of the contest.

Waldburger scored twice just over a minute apart to make it 10-0 with 17:30 remaining in the first half.

Lynch closed the first half at 15-0. Hart opened the second half scoring and then finished off Bridgewater's 20th to complete her hat trick.

Bridgewater improves to 2-0 and will have its home opener on Tuesday afternoon vs. Muskingum.
