BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Washington & Lee advanced to the ODAC semifinals with a 2-0 victory Sunday over the Bridgewater College Eagles in the opening round of the conference tournament.
For the second year in a row W&L avenged a regular-season loss to the Eagles and ended Bridgewater's season.
After a scoreless first half, the Generals got on the board when Holley Beasley scored from 12 yards out. A Bridgewater defender fell after contact with Beasley in the box, leaving the W&L forward with an open shot.
W&L added an insurance goal when BC keeper Mackenzie Gates misplayed a ball at the top of the box, leaving Katie Rossi with an open net.
W&L held an 18-7 edge in shots and an 8-0 advantage in corners. BC starting keeper Cari Hensley finished with seven saves and Gates recorded one. W&L keeper Emily Leary registered one save.
The Eagles finish another solid season on the pitch with a 13-5-1 overall record, tying the program record for most win in a season.
W&L, now 13-3-2, advances to the ODAC semifinals where it will meet top-seeded Lynchburg.
