PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Bridgewater College battled Wooster to a 1-1 tie Friday night on the opening day of play at the DoubleTree Tartan Cup hosted by Carnegie Mellon University.
Defense controlled play in the first half as the two teams combined for a total of just four shots. Each team had one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.
The Eagles took the lead early in the second half. Eagles' senior Keri Rager beat her defender on the left side and played the ball back to Isabella Krider who was closing in on the goal. Krider finished hard from close range to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute.
The lead held until the 73rd minute when Wooster scored the equalizer. Mila Zunich out ran the defender on the left sideline and played a long diagonal ball to the far post where Krissy Blanchard fit her shot between goalkeeper Hayley Talbott and the post to knot the score at 1-1.
In the first overtime, each team had two corner kick opportunities, but each time came away empty-handed. Each team had one shot in the second overtime as the contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
Bridgewater will look for its first win of the season Saturday evening when they meet No. 22 Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans defeated Frostburg State 1-0 in Friday's other contest. Carnegie Mellon controlled play, holding a 27-1 margin in shots over the Bobcats.
