HILTON HEAD, S.C. - On the final day of play in Hilton Head, S.C., the Bridgewater women's tennis team fell to NAIA school Marian by a 7-2 score.
In singles play, sophomore Emily Schweitzer was the lone winner, tallying a 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 three-set victory at number six singles.
In doubles play, Schweitzer teamed with Ally McConaughy to earn the team's only doubles victory, with the tandem earning a tight 8-6 victory at number three doubles. McConaughy and Schweitzer are unbeaten in 2010.
Bridgewater also played against Division II Millersville University and fell by a 5-4 score on Tuesday at the hands of the Marauders. The two teams played a shortened singles format.
Senior Megan Mathias picked up an 8-5 win at number one singles, while freshman Olivia Stone was victorious by a 9-8 (7-3) tally at number two.
Schweitzer was an 8-2 winner at number six, as the Eagles kept things even at three apiece through singles play.
In doubles action, the Marauders took two of three from the Eagles with BC's lone win coming at number three as McConaughy and Schweitzer won a hard-fought 8-6 decision.
Bridgewater is back in action on Tuesday, March 16 when the
squad travels to Ashland, Va. for an ODAC showdown with
Randolph-Macon. Tuesday's match with the Yellow Jackets is slated
for a 3:00 p.m. start.
