FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team opened up its Fall season over the weekend at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the University of Mary Washington.
Bridgewater saw solid performances from a number of freshmen, while the tandem of Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer picked up where they left off from the Spring season.
In singles play, freshman Brittany Wilson posted a 2-1 record. Wilson earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the round of 16 before posting a hard-fought three set victory in the quarterfinals. Wilson saw her winning streak come to an end in the semi-finals with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Emily Szulman.
McConaughy, Schweitzer and sophomore Amanda Gorby also posted wins for the Eagles.
In doubles action, McConaughy and Schweitzer earned a tough 8-3 win in the round of 16 before cruising in the quarterfinals an 8-0 tally. The junior duo fell by an 8-4 margin in the semi-finals to finish the weekend with a 2-1 mark.
Freshmen Katy Bergey and Katie Gordon teamed up for their first doubles victory with an 8-1 triumph, while Morgan McGhee and Olivia Stone also went 1-1- on the weekend, earning an 8-6 victory along the way.
Bridgewater is back in action on October 9 and 10 at the ODAC Fall Tournament, hosted by Sweet Briar.
