Women's Tennis Picks Up 5-3 Win at Roanoke
ROANOKE, Va. - Rain pushed the Bridgewater Eagles to the indoor clay courts at the Roanoke Country Club in their women's tennis matchup with the Roanoke Maroons. Despite the change in venue, the result for the Eagles remained the same as they prevailed by a 5-3 score in an ODAC matchup.
The win was Bridgewater's 13th straight.
The Maroons claimed the matchup at number two doubles before the Eagles regained the lead with a victory at number three doubles. Junior Emily Schweitzer teamed up with sophomore Amanda Gorby to earn an 8-1 win at the number three spot to put the Eagles up 2-1 after doubles play.
Bridgewater fell behind after number one and two singles as Gordon and Bergey both posted tight losses before freshman Brittany Wilson kept her winning streak in tact with a 6-3, 6-1 win at number three to even things up.
Gorby was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at number four, while Schweitzer picked up a 6-2, 61 victory at number six to seal the victory for the Eagles.
Sophomore Olivia Stone's matchup at number five went unfinished.
Bridgewater is back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, when the team travels to Shepherd.
