Women’s Tennis Falls 7-2 to Elizabethtown

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – In the opening match of the 2012 PTR Spring TennisFest, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team swept the first two matches of singles action but couldn't muster another win as the Eagles fell by a 7-2 tally to Elizabethtown.

Elizabethtown swept the doubles matches starting with a tight 8-6 victory in top flight doubles action. At number two, the Eagles duo ofAlly McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer dropped an 8-1 match, before the tandem of Olivia Stone and Brittany Wilson dropped an 8-3 affair.

In singles action, sophomore Katie Gordon took a 6-1, 6-3 victory at number one singles, before fellow sophomore Katy Bergey earned an easy 6-0, 6-2 decision at number two.

Wilson dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision at number three, while Stone posted a 6-1, 6-1 loss at number four singles.

Bridgewater wrapped up the match with a pair of losses as Schweitzer fell in a three-set affair by a 3-6, 6-1, 10-2 margin, before McConaughy dropped a 2-6, 6-1, 10-4 decision at number six to close out the match.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday morning against Wilkes. Start time is set for 11:30 a.m.
