Women’s Tennis Stings Hornets, 9-0

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater Eagles (5-4) women's tennis team moved above .500 on the season with a 9-0 shutout victory over the Lynchburg Hornets in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match on Wednesday afternoon at the LC Tennis Courts.

The win was Bridgewater's third in a row.

In doubles action, the duo of Katy Bergey and Katie Gordon claimed an 8-4 victory at number one in what was the tightest doubles match of the day.

At the number two doubles post, the tandem of Brittany Wilson and Olivia Stone notched an easy 8-1 victory before the senior team of Ally McConaughy ad Emily Schweitzer posted an 8-0 shutout win at number three to put the Eagles up 3-0 after doubles play. The win for McConaughy and Schweitzer marked their third consecutive victory.

Turning to singles action, Gordon opened play with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in top flight singles play before Bergey rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 straight sets win at number two to seal the match for the Eagles.

Wilson was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at number three, while Schweitzer turned in an easy 6-0, 6-0 shutout win at number four to keep things rolling for Bridgewater.

At number five, Stone turned in a 6-1, 6-1 win, before McConaughy rounded out the match with an easy 6-0, 6-0 victory at number six.

Bridgewater is back in action on Friday when Randolph visits the BC Tennis Courts. Start time against the WildCats is set for 3:30 p.m.
