BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Behind a sweep of doubles play and a near sweep in singles action, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team ran its winning streak to six matches with an 8-1 victory over visiting Roanoke.
At number two, the tandem of Brittany Wilson and Olivia Stone rolled to an easy 8-0 triumph, while seniors Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer added to their career-record doubles wins total with a tight 8-6 victory at number three. For Schweitzer, the win was her 51st career doubles victory, which edges out McConaughy by one match for the career record.
Roanoke earned its lone win of the day when Katie Gordon dropped the matchup in top flight doubles by a 6-2, 6-4 tally.
In a tightly contested match at number two, Bergey had trouble putting games away at times, before finally putting the match away with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph.
Wilson picked up an easy 6-1, 6-0 win at number three, while Schweitzer flipped the set scores at number four with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Stone posted her team-leading 14th victory of the season by a 6-1, 6-2 tally at number five, before McConaughy rounded out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 straight-sets victory at number six.
Bridgewater has a tight turnaround as the squad gets back to play on Saturday afternoon at home against Guilford. The Eagles tangled with the Quakers at 2 p.m. in a match that also marks Senior Day and Alumni Day for the squad.
