Eagles Turn Back Lynchburg, 8-1

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team picked up an ODAC victory Thursday afternoon with an 8-1 decision over Lynchburg College.

The Eagles swept the doubles play to lead 3-0.

Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash put the Eagles on the board with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Sarah Wyly and Kelsey Dowling.

Jamiah Lewis and Shannon Quinn made it 2-0 with an 8-1 victory over Emily Simpson and Reagan Coon at No. 2 doubles.

In an exciting match at No. 1, Bridgewater's Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett rallied to defeat Lilli Altenburg and Christina Harris 9-8, winning the tiebreaker 7-4.

Lynchburg picked up its lone point at No. 1 singles where Harris defeated Lewis 6-1, 6-1.

The Eagles clinched the match with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles. At No. 3, Shifflett downed Wyly 6-3, 6-0 and Kiser turned back Simpson 6-3, 6-2 to take the victory at the No. 2 slot.

Bridgewater also swept the final three singles matches for the final 8-1 margin.

At No. 4 singles, Barton defeated Altenburg 8-2 while Cash stopped Dowling 8-0 to win at No. 5. Quinn took the win at No. 6 over Coon 8-2.
