Women's Tennis Improves To 4-2 In The ODAC With 8-1 Victory Over Hollins

ROANOKE, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team improved its conference record to 4-2 with an 8-1 victory Tuesday over Hollins.

Bridgewater swept the doubles play to take a 3-0 lead.

Jamiah Lewis and Shannon Quinn were first off the court as the duo downed Amelia Verkerk and Sarah Snoddy 8-2 to win at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 3, Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash defeated Kateri Johnson and Casey Mahan, 8-1

The Eagles' No. 1 pairing of Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett completed the sweep with an 8-3 verdict over Jhovanna Salmeron and Htet Myat San.

Barton put the Eagles on top 4-0 as she blanked Htet Myat San 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Kiser scored the decisive point with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Olivia Dannon at No. 2 singles.

Lewis rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Salmeron at No. 1 singles. Cash defeated Johnson 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 slot while Quinn took a 6-1, 6-1 win over Snoddy at No. 6.

Hollins picked up its lone point at No. 3 singles where Verkerk rallied past Shifflett to win in split sets. Shifflett blanked her opponent 6-0 in the first set, but Verkerk bounced back to even the score by winning the second set 6-4. Verkerk won the tiebreaker to decide the winner by a score of 10-7.
