Eagles Run Winning Streak To Five Straight Matches

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team won its fifth straight match and fourth straight in ODAC with a 7-2 victory Sunday afternoon over Emory & Henry on Mapp Courts.

The Eagles took a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles action.

Bridgewater's Jamiah Lewis and Shannon Quinn defeated Savanna Summers and Bri Pierce 8-1 at No. 2 doubles while Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash blanked Katie Meade and Kaitlyn Sheaves 8-0 to take the win at No. 3.

The Wasps salvaged a point when Lauren Riner and Liz Graham held off Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles slot.

The Eagles won the top three singles flights to clinch the team victory.

Lewis stopped Riner 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Kiser defeated Graham by the identical score at No. 2. Shifflett turned back Summers 6-4, 6-2 for the win at No. 3.

Barton added a victory at No. 4, defeating Pierce 6-2, 6-0 while Cash added the Eagles' final point with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Meade at the No. 5 slot.

E&H picked up its second point at No. 6 singles where Sheaves outlasted Quinn in split set. Sheaves held on for a 6-4 win in the first set, but Quinn evened the score by winning the second set 6-2. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner and Sheaves edged Quinn 11-9.
