Women's Tennis Blanks Marlins, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater closed out its regular season Sunday afternoon and the Eagles blanked Virginia Wesleyan on Senior Day, 9-0 on Mapp Courts.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead by sweeping the three doubles matches.

Nicole Shifflett and Whitney Kiser turned back Katie Staman and Aubree Johnson 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while Jamiah Lewis and Shannon Quinn defeated Taylor Witherspoon and Jacklyn Cheely 8-1 at No. 2. Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash completed the sweep with an 8-0 win at No. 3 over Abby Horgan and Kerstin Holman.

The Eagles also swept the singles matches, winning all six in straight sets.

Eagles' senior Ashley Price was first off the court as she defeated Holman 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Kiser claimed the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Cheely.

At No. 5 singles, senior Whitney Cash defeated Johnson 6-0, 6-1. Lewis rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Staman at No. 1 singles and Shifflett turned back Witherspoon 6-0, 7-5 at No. 3. Barton won her match at No. 4 by scores of 6-1, 6-1 over Horgan.

The Eagles finish the regular season in fourth place in the conference standings with an 8-3 record.

Pairings and match times for the upcoming conference tournament will be announced by the ODAC office.
