LYNCHBURG, Va. - Olivia Mills, Katie Cummings and Jordan Pitchford won events Saturday to lead the Bridgewater College Eagles to a strong fourth-place finish at the ODAC Track & Field Championship Meet hosted by Lynchburg College.
Roanoke took the team title with 145.3 points, leaving three teams to battle for second. Lynchburg took the spot with 114.8 points to edge Washington and Lee with 104.3 points and Bridgewater with 102.5 points.
Mills took a convincing win in the 5000 meters with a winning time of 18:03.93. Zanny Ludtke also picked up a point in the event with a sixth-place time of 19:08.07.
The Eagles picked up two spots in the triple jump, led by Pitchford's winning jump of 36 feet, 2.25 inches. Melanie Waters jumped 34 feet, 10.75 inches to take fourth in the event.
Cummings capped off a stellar career for the Eagles with a win in the discus. The BC senior had a best effort of 124 feet, 4.25 inches.
Senior Jessie Owens placed second in the javelin with a personal best of 105 feet, 10.75 inches.
The Eagles took two spots in the pole vault to finish off their scoring in the field events. Erin Parker cleared the bar at 9 feet, 4.25 inches to finish third and Jenna Stacy tied for fifth, clearing 8 feet, one-half inch.
Back on the track, the Eagles took two of the top six spots in the 1500 meters. Mills ran a solid race in 4:46.98 to finish second behind Roanoke's Carmen Graves who was named to the meet's top performer. Whitney Fitzgerald ran a personal best 4:56.62 to take fifth place.
A pair of fourth-place finishes closed out the Eagles individual scoring. Fitzgerald ran another personal best in the 800 where her time of 2:23.21 was good for fourth. Elizabeth Stump ran 1:02.18 to finish fourth in the 400 meters.
