BC Women Leap Up Four Spots in Regional Rankings to Sixth


NEW ORLEANS – The Bridgewater women's track and field team had a weekend of solid performances at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Indoor Meet at Liberty, earning them sixth place in the region after this week's South-Southeast Region poll.

After winning the ODAC Championship meet, Roanoke is runner-up in the region, while fellow ODAC teams Lynchburg and Washington and Lee are right above Bridgewater in fourth and fifth place. The women jumped from tenth place to sixth place in the regional polls conducted by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

At the championship meet at Liberty, the distance medley relay quartet of junior Stephanie Breen, senior Morgan Keplinger, freshman Makenzie McDonald, and senior Whitney Fitzgerald crossed the line with a time of 13:07.14, earning them fourth place in the region.

Freshman Kristen Trice, after earning Rookie of the Year honors at the ODAC Championship meet, is tied for eighth in the region along with sophomore Brittany Kersey with a measure of 5 feet, 1 ¼ inches.

In the long jump event, junior Melanie Waters sits in fourth place with a best jump of 16 feet, 11 ½ inches, while fellow freshman Greer Brown is in seventh with a final leap of 16 feet, 9 ¼ inches.

After earning first place in the triple jump at the championship meet with a best of 36 feet, 5 inches, Trice also earned first place in the region. Waters is right behind her with 36 feet in third place.

Freshman Ally Smith jumps into regional rankings in the shot put as she earns eighth place with a throw of 35 feet, 10 inches.

Bridgewater is competing in the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet in Blacksburg this weekend and start time is set for 10 a.m.
