Bridgewater Hosts 22nd Jopson Invitational



BRIDGEWATER, Va. –
The Bridgewater College women's track and field team hosted the 22nd annual Dr. Harry G.M. Jopson Invitational on Saturday.

Senior Katelyn Senger broke the Bridgewater College discus record with a throw of 44.49m. Senger won the event with that record throw. She also finished second in the shot put (11.04m/36'2.75").

Junior Scarlett Bavin would take the win in the 5000m (19:55.26). Sophomore Jenna Rea (20:41.87) and senior Erin Quinn (20:58.66) rounded out the top five of the event.

In the 1500 meters, junior Maryellen Hauver would edge out freshman teammate Calista Ariel for the win. Hauver finished with a time of 5:08.40 and Ariel finished the event in 5:08.56. Emma Daw finished fourth with a time of 5:33.46.

Bridgewater claimed another win in the 4x100m relay. Tye Meador, Emily Valle, Courtney Adams, and Amber Celen sprinted to the finish line in 50.09 seconds. The Eagles pairing finished just shy of four seconds ahead of their closest competitor.

In pole vault competition, Adams vaulted her way to the win (3.08m/10'1.25). Senger finished second in the hammer throw with a throw of 36.28/119'0.50." Freshman Danielle Werner (28.77m/94'5") and sophomore Chloe Ferguson (27.53/90'4.25") finished ninth and tenth in the event.

Celen would be victorious in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.59 seconds. Felicia Clements finished third in the event with a time of 18.71 seconds. Celen also won the long jump with a leap of 5.78m/18'11.75"- a new school record.

Senger claimed victory in javelin competition with a throw of 30.90m/101'4.75". Meador won the triple jump (10.60m/34'9.50") while her teammate Katie McElroy finished second (10.23/33'6.75).

Bridgewater College had three Eagles place in the top three for the high jump. Adams won the event (1.57m/5'1.75"), Clements finished second (1.52m/4'11.75"), and McElroy would finish third (1.37/4'6").

The Eagles dominated the competition in the 4x400m relay. Hauver, Celen, Meador, and Valle finished in 4:15.47. The foursome crossed the finish line 14 seconds before the next team.

Bridgewater will compete in the Liberty Collegiate Invite next Friday and Saturday at Liberty University. Friday's events start at 3 p.m. and Saturday's events start at 10:45 a.m.
