Eagles Drop First Two Matches at Carnegie Mellon Invite

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Bridgewater College lost two matches Friday afternoon at the Carnegie Mellon Invite. The Eagles lost to DeSales in four games and then were swept in three by Mount Union.

Bridgewater lost to DeSales 25-13, 18-25, 25-13, 25-17 and fell to Mount Union by scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-17.

Mara Hogan (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) posted a double-double against DeSales with 12 kills and 10 digs. Katie Baker (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) added nine kills and six blocks and Cadie Castle (Mineral, Va./Louisa) put down nine kills. Casey O'Leary (Quinton, Va./New Kent) paced the team in digs with 21 and Lauren Johnson (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) finished with a double-double of 11 digs and 27 assists.

Castle paced the Eagles with 10 kills and four blocks in the Mount Union match. Bethany Doman (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) added five kills and Johnson led the team with 17 assists. Hogan finished with 13 digs and Ashley Weik (Marstons Mills, Mass./Banstable) added 12 digs.

The Eagles, now 7-6, are back in action Saturday with matches against King's College and Scranton.
