BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College Volleyball team defeated Eastern Mennonite University 3-0 Friday evening on senior night. The team recognized it's two seniors Carleigh Studtmann and Macon Frey before the match.
Bridgewater had 44 kills on the night and just 16 errors.
Deja Booker led all players in kills with 12 on the night to go along with a .474 kill percentage. Victoria Wilson recorded a double-double with 24 assists and 17 digs. Macon Frey also notched a double-double with 18 digs to go along with ten kills. Booker and Studtmann each recorded three blocks.
Set one was a close match until Bridgewater took an 11-7 lead on three straight errors by EMU. A kill by Deja Booker and a big block from Booker and Studtmann extended the Eagles' lead to 17-10 and they would go onto to take the match by a final score of 25-18.
Bridgewater took a 12-3 lead to start the second set. EMU battled their way back and cut Bridgewater's lead to 21-16. However, Allison Clark had back-to-back kills to give BC the momentum and the Eagles were able to hold on and win the set 25-19.
The Eagles had full control of the third set. They jumped out to a 9-1 lead which included four kills by Deja Booker. Bridgewater was able to capatalize on EMU errors and Studtmann gave the Eagles a 21-9 lead on back-to-back kills. BC took the final set by a score of 25-14 with a .517 hitting percentage.
Bridgewater closes out the regular season 19-6 and 8-3 in the ODAC, which ties them for third in the standings with Virginia Wesleyan. Bridgewater will now prepare for the ODAC tournament where they will compete in a quarterfinal match on Wedesday, Nov. 1.
