FERRUM, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team fell to Washington and Lee before sweeping Ferrum at the first ODAC tri-match of the season on September 29.

Match One: W&L 3, BC 0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-19)

Bridgewater jumped out to a 4-1 advantage in set one before the Generals picked up the pace. The match would stay even throughout and was neck and neck at 21-20. Washington & Lee would pick up 4 of the next 6 points to take the set.

Washington and Lee controlled set two as Bridgewater was never able to get closer than five points to the Generals.

Jyailah Friendly started set three on a five-point service run. The set was tied at 17-17 when Washington and Lee closed out the match. They would only allow the Eagles to score two more points as they would win the set 25-19 and take the match.

Nadia Valle and Rachel Gaston led the team with six kills each while Victoria Wilson racked up 19 assists.

Match Two: BC 3, Ferrum 0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-17)

Bridgewater bounced back to defeat Ferrum in straight sets.  The team notched 15 kills in the first set and ended it on a Valle kill.

The Eagles hit a .400 in the second set while holding the Panthers to a .161. A kill from Deja Booker and a strong final serve by Taylor McNeely put the Eagles up 2-0.

McNeely continued her strong serving in set three as the Eagles stormed out to a 6-0 lead.  Just like the entire match, they would never relinquish the lead as Valle would have another set and match winner to complete the sweep.

Gaston led the team with 12 kills with Valle not far behind at 11. Gaston earned her ninth double-double with 14 digs, another team and match high. Wilson contributed 35 assists.

Bridgewater moves to 14-3 on the season. They return to action next Tuesday as they travel to Christopher Newport University for non-conference action.
