Women’s Cross Country ODAC Championship Set for Saturday

Penn Laird, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's cross country team is preparing for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Cross Country Championship at Peak View Elementary School and Burtner Farm in Penn Laird, Va. The women are set to race at 12 p.m. on Saturday.

In the ODAC preseason poll, the Eagles were picked to finish first for the 2012-2013 season and Washington and Lee was picked as number two.

This season, senior Olivia Mills finished in 18th place at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota with a time of 23:25. At the CNU Invitational, she grabbed a second place finish with a time of 22:35 behind freshman teammate Kaylee Kubisiak.

Kubisiak's first collegiate race was the Roy Griak Invitational where she finished the six kilometer course in a time of 22:30 in seventh place. At the CNU Invitational, Kubisiak finished first with a time of 22:27.

Other Eagles to look out for are junior Stephanie Breen, sophomore Zanny Ludtke, and freshman Makenzie McDonald. Breen's best six kilometer time was 24:36 at the Roy Griak Invitational. At the CNU Invitational, Ludtke clocked her best time of the season at 22:35. In her first year running for the Eagles, McDonald finished ninth at the four kilometer Doc Jopson Invitational with a time of 16:27 and her top 6K time was 25:56 in Minneapolis.

The Eagles placed first with 27 points in 2011 at the Championship. Washington and Lee finished in second, followed by Virginia Wesleyan, Lynchburg, Roanoke, Eastern Mennonite, Guilford, and Randolph.  

Mills finished first at the 2011 ODAC Championship with a time of 22:00 and was awarded the 2011 ODAC Runner of the Year.

The weekly regional rankings put out by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) ranked Bridgewater in the sixth place last week for the South/Southeast. Washington and Lee and Eastern Mennonite ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

In September at the EMU Royals Invitational, Washington and Lee placed first followed by Eastern Mennonite and Lynchburg at the Peak View course.
