PENN LAIRD, Va. – Senior Olivia Mills claimed her second straight individual championship and Runner of the Year honor, while freshman Kaylee Kubisiak was named the Rookie of the Year as the Bridgewater Eagles women's cross country team placed second on Saturday afternoon at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's cross country championships.
Mills paced the field with a winning time of 23:07.83. The senior also claimed the 2011 ODAC individual championship and with her win on Saturday became the program's first two-time conference Runner of the Year. Mills also earned All-ODAC accolades for her efforts.
Kubisiak finished one spot behind Mills to earn Rookie of the Year accolades. The freshman crossed the line in a time of 23:17.58 to place two Bridgewater runners atop the 92 person field. The freshman also picked up All-ODAC honors for her stellar performance.
Senior Whitney Fitzgerald turned in a stellar performance for the Eagles in a 10th place finish. Fitzgerald finished the 6K course with a time of 24:32.23. Fitzgerald was named to the All-ODAC team for her efforts.
Sophomore Zanny Ludtke was Bridgewater's fourth finisher, crossing the line with a time of 24:55.90. Ludtke's performance was good enough for 14th place overall and a spot on the All-ODAC team.
Bridgewater's fifth and final scorer was freshman Makenzie McDonald. McDonald finished the course in a time of 25:39.80 which was good enough for 24th place overall.
Washington and Lee claimed the team title by 22 points over the Eagles. The Generals placed all five scorers inside the top 10 to finish the day with 29 total points. Bridgewater finished with 51 points to take home the runner up spot, while Lynchburg, Eastern Mennonite and Virginia Wesleyan rounded out the top five.
Bridgewater is back in action on November 10 at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships in Atlanta.
