BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's cross country team will travel to Hampton, Ga. for the South/Southeast Regional cross country championship on Saturday. Emory University will be hosting the six kilometer championship at Nash Farm Battlefield at 11 a.m.
The most recent competition for the Eagles was the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's cross country championships two weeks ago in Harrisonburg, Va. at Peak View Elementary School. The Eagles finished in second place overall.
Senior Olivia Mills earned the Runner of the Year honor for the second straight year. Mills paced the field with a winning time of 23:07.83.
Freshman Kaylee Kubisiak finished one spot behind Mills to earn Rookie of the Year accolades. Kubisiak crossed the finish line with a time of 23:17.58.
Senior Whitney Fitzgerald finished the 6K course in 10th place with a time of 24:32.23. Sophomore Zanny Ludtke crossed the finish line fourth for the Eagles and in 14th place overall with a time or 24:55.90.
Bridgewater's final scorer at the ODAC Championship was freshman Makenzie McDonald. McDonald finished the course in a time of 25:39.80 which was good enough for 24th place.
In the most recent poll released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the South/Southeast region Bridgewater was ranked sixth.
Trinity (Texas) grabbed the top spot followed by Emory and Christopher Newport. Washington and Lee earned fourth place after a first place finish at the ODAC Championship. Centre ranks in one spot ahead of the Eagles. Sewanee, The University of the South, is currently ranked seventh followed by Rhodes and Mary Washington. Lynchburg College rounds out the poll in 10th place.
