BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College Cross Country teams competed in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational Friday evening. The men's team finished tenth out of twelve teams in the 8K race. The women's team had eight runners take part in the 4K alumni race.
The men had five runners finish in the top 70. Robert Theimer finished first from Bridgewater, crossing the line 52nd with a time of 27:31.8. Jamie Hiegel finished just a second behind him coming in 53rd with a time of 27:32.3. Shane Gibson crossed the finish line 59th at 28:02.9. Adam Bailey was 64th at 28:47.4, and Ernest Garbee came in just a few seconds behind him finishing 67th with a time of 28:50.7
The women were the only team to compete beside alumni in the 4K race. Calista Ariel finished first from the team with a time of 15:48.5. Jenna Rea was second at 16:06.1. English Jackson was Bridgewater's third finisher with a time of 16.29.7 and Scarlett Bavin was fifth at 16:49.4.
Both teams will take a week off before traveling to Charlotte, N.C. to compete in the Royals Cross Country Challenge on Friday Sept. 29. The meet is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
