Bridgewater, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's cross country team opened their season with a win at the Eagles Cross Country Challenge held at the Eagles home course on Friday.
The women earned 26 points and had six athletes place in the top ten. The teams average time of 17:30.88 was nearly 40 seconds less than the second place team’s average time.
Junior English Jackson was the first Eagle to cross the finish line and earned second overall with a time of 16:58.17. Her teammates Calista Ariel and Jenna Rea were not far behind. Ariel ran the course in 17:25.92 to finish fourth, while Rea finished fifth with a time of 17:27.88.
Other Eagles to finish in the top ten were Lynsey Taylor, Emma Daw, and Charis Barnes. Taylor finished seventh after completing the race in 17:46.80. Daw was right behind her in eight with a time of 17:55.66, while freshman Barnes rounded out the top ten after a 18:24.63 performance. Freshman Grace Dellinger just missed the top ten, finishing 14th with a time of 19:17.13.
The Eagles will be back in action on September 22 in the Hornet Harrier Invitational hosted by Shenandoah University.
