John Rogers

John Rogers took over men's golf head coaching duties following 2016-17, his fifth year as the school's head women's coach.

In those five years, Rogers took a new program to consecutive ODAC championships in 2016 and 2017, an NCAA D-III individual title by Christina Herbert in 2017, and four-straight ODAC Coach of the Year accolades.

The 2020-21 men's golf squad featured three All-ODAC selections, and the program's first All-State honoree since 2013 in senior Ronald Uszenski.

In 2019-20, the men won their first tournament in seven years with a Shenandoah Invitational triumph, and added a victory at the Pfeiffer Invitational. Jason Spaar and Jacob Laughlin were both named to the All-ODAC team.

On Aug. 22, 2012, Bridgewater College Interim President Roy Ferguson and Director of Athletics Curt Kendall named Rogers, a 15 year veteran instructor at Lakeview Golf Course in Harrisonburg, Va., as the new head coach for the Eagles women’s golf program.
Rogers was hired at Lakeview in 1995 as an assistant pro and has been a golf instructor since 1996, occasionally assisting the Bridgewater Eagles men’s golf program starting in 1999.

Rogers became the lead instructor at Lakeview in 2009, assisting golfers of all ages and abilities while teaching more than 1,200 private lessons per year, and overseeing a variety of developmental programs.

Prior to being named Lakeview’s top instructor, Rogers was a full-time teaching professional for eight years, beginning in 2001. During that time he created the Tournament Players Series, which is a program designed to help young golfers develop their skills, and many of his students have gone on to play at the collegiate level.

In addition to working at Lakeview, Rogers served as a fitness and golf instructor at RMH Wellness Center from 2004 – 2011 where he created a golf-fitness program called “Fit to a Tee” and provided indoor lessons.

Rogers graduated magna cum laude from James Madison University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. He lives in Rockingham County with his wife Rebecca, son Phillip, and daughter Bertie. He continues to teach part-time at Lakeview and has given over 30,000 lessons in his career, making him unique among college coaches.
