Former All-Region and All-State selection Macon Frey is entering her second season as an assistant coach with the Bridgewater College volleyball program.
In 2018, her first season as an assistant coach, the Eagles went 24-7 and 10-2 in ODAC play. They were ranked as high as #6 in the Region, featured the ODAC Player of the Year (Rachel Gaston), and had the program's first two All-Americans ever in Gaston and setter Victoria Wilson.
Frey was a three-year starter at libero for the Eagles after transferring from West Chester University. An All-ODAC selection as a junior and senior, she was named second team VaSID All-State in 2016 and then an honorable mention AVCA All-Region honoree in 2017.
“I’m both honored and excited to announce that Macon Frey will be joining my staff as our new assistant coach,” said head coach Erin Harris upon Frey's hiring. “I believe that Macon’s future in collegiate coaching is very bright, and in choosing to begin her career here at Bridgewater it speaks volumes about her experience in our program and at the College. She really understands the core covenants of our program and where we want to go as a team.”
Frey finished her career second on Bridgewater's all-time digs list with 1,480, in just three seasons. She also graduated with 241 assists and 78 service aces. She set a Bridgewater record for most digs in a match in 2016 with 45 against William Peace and she is tied for third for the program's most digs in a single season with 514 in 2016.
As a senior, Frey finished second in the conference in digs per set (5.59), third in digs (484) and owned 73 assists and 33 service aces. Her 514 digs as a junior and paced the ODAC and she also led the conference in digs per set (5.30).
“Macon was a highly successful student-athlete and two-year captain in our program which gives her a unique perspective that I believe we can utilize as a staff to continue our team’s success,” said Harris. “Macon’s ability to speak passionately about our team, program, and the College will be invaluable to our recruiting efforts and in connecting with our alumni.”
