Bridgewater College ran its winning streak to 10 in a row
Thursday by sweeping a doublheader at Peace College. The Eagles won
the opener 4-2 and rallied to win the second game, 6-5.
In the opener, the Eagles scored all of their runs in the top of
the first.
Mallory Sandridge double, Emily Morris singled and Kaitlyn Bowman
was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Caity Butler then gave the
Eagles the lead with a single that scored two runners. Lauren
Childress' singled scored the third run and put runners at the
corners. Butler gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead when she was safe at
home as she and Childress pulled off a successful double steal.
Ashley Gills made the runs stand up as she pitched a complete game.
Gills allowed two runs on seven hits. She struck out two and walked
one.
In the second game, BC rallied from a 5-3 deficit to take the
victory.
The Eagles scored two in the first and made it 3-0 on a run-scoring
single by Childress in the third.
Peace then scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the third
to take a 5-3 lead.
The Eagles tied the game with two runs in the fifth. Bowman doubled
and scored on a single by Butler, who moved to second on the throw
home. Amanda Bradley pinch ran for Butler and moved to third on a
wild pitch. Bradley scored on a single by Childress to tie the
score, 5-5.
Bridgewater scored the winning run in the sixth. Hillary Rees,
Sandridge and Morris put together consecutive singles to load the
bases. Bowman then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in what proved to
be the winning run.
Becky Schmidt came on in relief and shut the Pacers out over the
final five innings to pick up the win. Schmidt allowed no runs on
five hits. She struck out two and walked one.
