Softball Ends Florida Trip With A Win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bridgewater College softball team split the final day of their Florida trip. The Eagles fell to Muhlenberg before beating Thiel in extra innings.

Game One – Bridgewater 1, Muhlenberg 3

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when Muhlenberg scored on an Eagle error. They added another run on the next bat with a single to make the score 2-0.

Bridgewater answered in the bottom of the fifth when Carolyn Campbell's fly ball to center field was dropped. Morgan Landes took over running duties for Campbell and advanced to third on a Sydney Layman sacrifice fly ball. Landes ran home on an error by the shortstop during Lindsey Talley's at bat for the Eagles first run.

That would be the lone run for the Eagles in the game. Muhlenberg added one more run in the top of the sixth to make the final score 3-1.

Katrina Martin had one hit for Eagles. Talley and Avery Pinder each stole a base.

Carolyn Campbell pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits.

Game Two – Bridgewater 3, Thiel 1

The Eagles earned their first run on a Thiel error in the fifth. Avery Pinder bunted and her hit was mishandled at first base, giving Allison Patrick to pathway to score.

Thiel answered when they needed it most in the seventh with an RBI single to left field to even the game at 1-1.

With the game sent to extra innings, the Eagles stepped up and put two more runs on the board for their ninth win of the season. Pinder scored on a Sarah Wimer ground out RBI, and Katrina Martin hit an RBI single to left field to send Marlee Carroll home for run number three.

Martin led the Eagles with two hits and a RBI. Wimer also contributed an RBI. Landes and Pinder each stole a base.

Brooke Louden pitched the first six innings, allowing 6 hits and one run. Emily Clifford pitched the remainder of the game and allowed no hits.

Bridgewater finishes their Florida trip with a 9-3 record. They return to action with a road trip to Mary Washington on Thursday, March 14.
