BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater men's swimming team fell to Roanoke on Saturday 144-117 in dual meet action, but broke nine program records in the event.
In the very first event, Bridgewater broke a program record.
Jose Urdaneta,
Luke Wintersgill,
Andrea Cibrario and
Travis McCauley teamed up in the 200m medley relay and finished with a time of 1:50.06 just two tenths of a second behind the group from Roanoke but, enough for a program record.Â
Wintersgill rewrote the record book for a second time on the day with his win in the 100m breaststroke. The junior edged out Logan Deal from Roanoke by just nine-hundredths of a second with a 1:07.45.
Cibrario almost clipped the one minute mark in the 100m backstroke picking up a win in the event and setting a program record with a 1:00.33. Urdenata would have also broken the school record with his second place finishing time of 1:03.25.Â
The freestyle events belonged to McCauley as he set two different program records in back to back events. First in the 50m McCauley finished second by under two tenths of a second with a time of 24.32 seconds. The junior followed up that performance with a third place finish in the 100m setting a program best 56.78 second run.
Urdaneta picked up a win in the 200m backstroke and set another program record finishing with a 2:16.44.
Cibrario set two more program records to close out his day. First in the 100m butterfly won the event and finished with a time of 58.95 seconds and followed that up with a win in the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:12.63.
Just like the day started with a record broken, it closed with one as well.
Thomas Rose,
Ben Beaudoin,
Jack Cataneo and McCaulley teamed up in the 200m freestyle relay finishing with a 1:44.4 for a second place finish.
