LOS ANGELES - The Bridgewater College softball team split with host Occidental College on day two of their trip to California.

Game One

The Basics

• Final Score: Bridgewater 8, Occidental 2
• Records: Bridgewater (2-1), Occidental (2-9)

How It Happened

• Sarah Wimer hit a two RBI home run in the top of the first to put the Eagles on the board first. Occidental added a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single to right center field
• The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the third on another RBI single to right center. The teams would remain tied at 2-2 through the fourth and fifth innings
• With the bases loaded, Wimer launched her second home run of the game to bring Torie Shifflett, Avery Pinder and Jazmyne Smith home to take a 6-2 lead. Brooklynn Fridley added two more runs later in the inning on a single to left center field to help BC pick up the 8-2 victory

Match Notes

• Wimer and Smith both notched two hits with Wimer adding six RBIs
• Brantley Swift earned the win, allowing six hits while throwing five strikeouts in six innings. Cierra Foss pitched the final inning for her first collegiate save

Game Two

The Basics

• Final Score: Bridgewater 6, Occidental 7
• Records: Bridgewater (2-2), Occidental (3-9)

How It Happened

• Wimer's bat struck first again the second game with an RBI single to left center to give the Eagles an early 1-0 advantage. Shifflett made it 2-0 on a double to send Pinder home. On the next at-bat Hannah Mahan hit an RBI single to left field to cross Shifflett for a 3-0 edge
• Occidental took the lead in the bottom of the second on three RBI singles before Bridgewater tied it back up 4-4 in the top of the third on an Annaliese Franklin sacrifice fly to bring Wimer home
• The Tigers added two more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-4 edge. Needing a momentum swift, Kaitlyn Tirona earned an RBI to cross Morgan Lucas to bring the Eagles within one at 6-5. The one-point edge was short lived as the Tigers added one more to the scoreboard in the top of the sixth
• Bridgewater was able to load the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh and pick up another run when the Tigers walked Erin Dameron. The Eagles had the bases loaded again for chance to tie the game but could not capitalize on the opportunity

Match Notes

• Shifflett, Mahan, Lucas and Wimer all posted two hits with Shifflett knocking down two doubles
• Erica Nelson, Kearston Bruce and Emma Killion all saw time in the circle, collectively allowing 11 hits and striking out three batters

• The Eagles return to action tomorrow to face Pomona-Pitzer. Action is set for 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. EST.
