CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Bridgewater College softball split a pair of games with Pomona-Pitzer on day three of their visit to the West Coast.

Game One

The Basics

• Final Score: Bridgewater 0, Pomona-Pitzer 3
• Records: Bridgewater (2-3), Pomona-Pitzer (3-7)

How It Happened

• The Sagehens scored first on a fielder's choice play in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. They added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single to center field.
• Avery Pinder made an impressive diving catch for the first out of the fifth inning as a bright spot for the Eagles defensively in center field. Pomona-Pitzer would add their third run later that inning on an RBI single
• Bridgewater struggled offensively, not earning a hit until the top of the seventh when Jazmyne Smith hit a single to left field. Looking for a late comeback, the Eagles were unable to find a rhythm and fell 3-0

• Smith's single was the lone hit for BC
• Samantha Martin pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits while striking out two batters

Game Two

The Basics

• Final Score: Bridgewater 10, Pomona-Pitzer 2
• Records: Bridgewater (3-3), Pomona-Pitzer (3-8)

How It Happened

• After a scoreless first inning, Kaitlyn Tirona started the second with a double to left field. Brooklynn Fridley followed Tirona's double with a single of her own before finding the opportunity to steal second base. The Sagehens then walked Whitlee Hughes leaving the bases loaded for Torie Shifflett. Patient at the plate, Shifflett picked up a walk for the first run of the game
• With the bases still loaded, an error by the Sagehens' pitcher left a gap for Hughes to score and Peyton Gregory to find first base. Smith seized yet another bases loaded opportunity and hit a two RBI double to left center to give Bridgewater a 4-0 lead
• The second inning didn't end there as Sarah Wimer and Tirona both earned RBIs to give the Eagles a 6-0 edge after the frame
• Pomona-Pitzer responded in the bottom half of the inning with an unearned run and followed it up in the third on an RBI single to make it 6-2
• Bridgewater tacked on another huge inning in the sixth, starting with singles from Shifflett and Gregory. Having herself a day, Smith hit her second double of the game to send Shifflett home for the 7-2 edge. Smith and Gregory both crossed on a two RBI single from Wimer to increase the lead to 9-2
• A Fridley double ended the Eagles scoring for the day to bring Wimer home for the 10-2 advantage before the game was called for darkness after the bottom of the sixth

Match Notes

• Smith, Shifflett, Tirona and Fridley all posted two hits while Smith and Wimer had three RBIs each
• Emma Killion and Brantley Swift split pitching duties with Killion facing 19 batters and allowing two hits in three innings. Swift took over for the final three innings, facing 12 batters and allowing four hits
