BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's swimming team picked up a 122-83 win over Randolph-Macon in front of a packed house in Nininger Hall.
The Eagles opened with a win in the 200 meter medley relay taking the victory with a time of 1:51.65.
Ean Helmlinger picked up a hard-earned victory in the 800m freestyle, coming from behind and extending his lead narrowly over the final few laps to take home first place with a time of 9:00.37 for a new school record. He shattered his own mark by nearly 15 seconds.
Kris Schultz kept the winning theme going in the 200m freestyle, also setting a personal best with a time of 2:01.78.
Andrea Cibrario got himself in the win column in the 200 IM winning the event by nearly 10 seconds, touching the wall with a time of 2:12.73. The Italian international also picked up a win in the 100m backstroke by just under two seconds to help the BC winning effort.
Helmlinger picked up another win in the 400m freestyle as he finished with a time of 4:24.91, a second off his school record set a season ago.
BC was able to sweep the podium places in the 100m breaststroke.
Luke Wintersgill took home the top spot,
Eric Wilbur came home in second and
Ben Beaudoin wrapped up the sweep.
Helmlinger broke another program record to finish the day in the 200m freestyle relay. He teamed up with Cibrario,
Jack Cataneo and
Thomas Rose to earn a win by exactly one second with a time of 1:40.39.
The Eagles have a quick turn around and will be back in action on Saturday as they make the long trip to Virginia Wesleyan. Action is set to start at 1 p.m.
