BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's tennis team picked up a 9-0 over Mary Baldwin on Wednesday at the Mapp-Whitelow Courts.
The Eagles started off with a clean sweep of doubles action.
Noah Hughes and
Matthew Leonard cruised to an 8-0 win at the No. 2 spot while
Nicholas Arnold and
Bryce Cline did much of the same at the No. 3 slot with an 8-0 sweep as well.
Mark Gordon and
Gabe Elder grinded out a win at the top of the ladder, 8-5.
In singles action, Gordon was the first done with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot. Cine followed him with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the fourth spot and Elder cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top slot.
Ryan Briggman and
Coree Nicely stepped in the singles line up and picked up wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots respectively.
Leonard had to battle a bit on the second court. The sophomore stayed on serve in much of the opening set before finally getting a late service break and closing the opening set 6-3. Leonard fell behind an early break in the second set, but reeled off five straight games to close the second set 6-2.
The Eagles are back in action on Feb. 27 as they take on Assumption as part of PTR Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C.
