Matthew Leonard battled after faling behind 2-5 early. The pairing rallied off four of the last seven game but fell short 6-8.
In singles action
Gabe Elder grinded at the top spot after dropping the opening set 2-6. Elder opened the second set with a service break and a hold before handing the break right back. The Charlotte native battled but never trailed in the set, taking it 6-4 to force a decider. In the match tiebreak Elder stormed in front 4-0 but dropped five consecutive points before going on a tear, winning six of the last nine points to secure the win 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
On court two Leonard battled in the first set but fell 3-6, 0-6.
At the No. 6 slot, Hughes cruised through the opening set 6-2. Hughes started the second set with a trade of service breaks but held on to take the second set and the match 6-2.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday as they square off with Division II powerhouse Tiffin.
