BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's tennis team fell 9-0 to Hampden-Sydney on Sunday afternoon in ODAC action.
The match opened with two tight double matches. At the top spot
Mark Gordon and
Gabe Elder stayed on serve to 5-5 in the pro-set before a late service break swung the momentum in favor of the visitors allowing them to take the match 5-8. On court wo,
Matthew Leonard and
Noah Hughes stormed out in front with an early break of serve but the Tigers were able to level the match late with a break of their own to go ahead 5-4. The Eagles duo served it out to force a tie break but fell behind 2-6 in the breaker and saved three match-points before falling 7-8(5).
In singles action, Leonard opened the match with a service break to go ahead 1-0 but quickly found himself behind 1-5. The sophomore dug deep and grinded out two games before dropping the set and the match 3-6, 1-6.
Gordon was locked in a battle on court three but fell 3-6, 3-6 in two tight sets.
Ryan Briggman dropped the opening set 0-6 but battled in the second set before dropping it and the match 4-6.
BC is back in action on Wednesday as they host Averett at 2:30 p.m.
