HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
  • BC hopped on the board at the first opportunity as Jordan Wise reached on an error and Jazmyne Smith delivered with a two-run shot to make it 2-0 in the top of the first. Delaney Lail surrendered her first base runner in the opening inning of an outing in her last two starts, but BC recovered to maintain the lead.
  • A single from Abby Byrum opened the second, but she was left stranded. A three-up three-down inning by Lail kept BC in front and the Eagles proceeded to load the bases in the top of the third. The Vixens got out of the inning with a play at the plate, but again the home side went down in order at the hands of Lail.
  • BC was kept off the board in the top of the fourth to keep hope alive for Sweet Briar, but Lail quickly shut that down as she retired SBC to run the streak to eight hitters in a row.
  • Sweet Briar made a pitching change in the top of the fifth and BC put a runner aboard via an error. Lexi Schaaf drove in in the runner on a double and another SBC error brought her around to score. A single from McKenna Mueller drove in Byrum who reached on an error to finish the damage in the inning at a 5-0 scoreline.
  • The Vixens got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth as a series of passed balls brought in the run after a hit broke up Lail's streak. BC tagged on another run in the top of the sixth as Schaaf singled to drive in Smith who reached on a single earlier in the inning to make it 6-1. SBC had a chance in the bottom of the sixth and so did BC in the top of the seventh, but neither scored. Lail went back to work in the seventh and left no doubt, sitting the Vixens down in order to seal the deal.
GAME STATS:
  • Smith and Schaaf did the dirty work for BC in game one with a pair of RBI. Schaaf recorded a 3-for-4 day at the plate while Smith added a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored.
  • Jamerson was the only Vixen with multiple hits in game one with a 2-for-3 stat line.
  • Lail showed out in game one with a complete game victory for her second win the circle in as many days. The rookie allowed just six base runners and had a streak of eight batters retired in a row during the middle frames.
GAME TWO
  • Wise opened game two with a single the opposite way and Smith followed suit with a single of her own. Schaaf drove in another run with a single back up the middle to make it 1-0 after half of an inning.
  • SBC put two runners on in the bottom of the first with a pair of base knocks, but a strikeout from Elena Williams in the circle and a groundout kept the lead intact.
  • The top of the second is where BC did its damage. Mueller reached on an error to open the frame and a double that followed from Andrea Savage set the tone. The Savage two-bagger drove in Mueller and Kaelyn Ramsey stayed in tune with a single to drive Savage to third. Molly Ecroyd did next and did just as advertised as the speed threat cleared the bases with a triple to right field. Ecroyd scored in the next at bat on a passed ball to push it to 5-0. Wise singled again to extend the frame. Smith hit into a fielder's choice to slow the momentum a bit, but Lail delivered with a double to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Smith scored on a passed ball and an error later in the inning allowed for Lail to score as well to end the inning at a 7-0 BC advantage.
  • The long inning did not phase Williams as she retired the side in order in the bottom of the second and her mates extended the lead as Wise singled to drive in Ramsey who reached on an error earlier in the top of the third to make it 8-0. SBC got a runner aboard in the home half of the inning, but a double play ended the scoring hopes.
  • The Eagles polished off the offensive attack in the top of the fifth as a bases-loaded single from Georgia Grubb drove in Savage who reached on an error. Sweet Briar put two runners on in the bottom of the fifth, but a nifty throw from Cheyenne Barlow in left field ended the game at the plate.
GAME STATS:
  • Smith kept her hot streak and her hit streak alive with a pair of knocks, but Wise added a 3-for-3 effort at the dish along with a RBI. Nine different Eagles recorded hits in the game in total.
  • SBC connected for just four hits and a total of five base runners.
  • Williams (4-3) went the full five innings for BC allowing the four hits and retiring three hitters via the strikeout.
