BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team fell to Maryville 5-2 on Thursday at home.
The contest for the doubles point was heated to pen play. MC claimed a win at the No. 2 slot, but a tough fight by
Coree Nicely and
Logan Garner at No. 3 looked to even the score. he young duo was up late, but surrendered three games late to fall 4-6.
Corey Beshoar and
Matthew Leonard were in a battle at the top spot that went the distance. The Eagles' top duo converted its second match point to take a 7-6 (6) victory.
All three of the top matches to start singles play went the distance. Beshoar was first off the court with a 3-6, 6-0, 10-2 victory at the No. 2 spot to continue his hot start to the spring.
Steven Perry continued the trend with a hot start that saw him pic up the first set 6-1 at the No. 3 spot in no time. Perry was forced to go the distance after dropping the second set 5-7, but emerged victorious 10-8 in the match tiebreak. Leonard was the third match to go the distance in the trio. The senior dropped the opener 3-6 and found himself down 0-1, 0-30 before ripping off six-straight games to force a match tiebreak. Leonard continued to roll and led 7-2 in the tiebreak and had four match points, but did not convert and fell 11-13.
BC needed two of the three matches left to play and Nicely put them in the battle at No. 6, but fell in another thriller 6-3, 2-6, 4-10 as the Scots clinched the match with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 as well.
