BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Maryville 6-1 on Thursday afternoon in the team's spring opener.

The Eagles picked up a victory at the top doubles spot as Sarah Slagle and Jolexie Whetzel cruised to a 6-2 win. The Scots picked up the doubles point though as they were able to pick up victories at the bottom two slots. 

In singles play the Scots picked up wins at the top four spots, but with heavy resistance. Slagle fell in a tight 4-6, 4-6 battle at the top spot, while Whetzel fell 5-7,2-6 at the No. 2 slot.

BC got on the board at the No. 5 slot as Devon Wichael battled from a set down to take a 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 victory for the Eagles' lone point on the scoreboard. 

The Eagles are back in action in Hilton Head, S.C. on Monday against Dubuque at 5 p.m.
