GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Guilford 7-0 on Friday in a match that featured five different tiebreaks.
The fight for the doubles point came down to none other than a tiebreak. Guilford quickly picked up the win at No. 3, but BC's top duo of
Sarah Slagle and
Jolexie Whetzel picked up a tight 6-4 victory at No. 1.
Emma Staton and
Raea Crabill saw the point come down to their court and the duo's set went the distance under the new format shortening doubles play. The pairing went to a tiebreak at 6-6 on court No. 2 and even that went the distance with the Quakers sneaking out a 7-5 victory to go ahead 1-0 on the scoreboard.
SIngles action saw much of the same, but they all faced the same result. Slagle fell in a battle at the top spot 5-7, 4-6, while Whetzel accounted for two of the Eagles' tiebreaks on her own at No. 2 as she fell 4-6, 7-6(5), 5-10. Crabill also saw a tiebreak come her way at No. 3 in the opening set as she fell 6-7(3), 0-6.
Devon Wichael was in a battle at No. 5 as she split sets 1-6, 6-1 before falling 2-10 in the match tiebreak.
