fBRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team picked up an emotional 7-0 sweep of Ferrum on Wednesday afternoon.
BC clinched the doubles point quickly with two fast victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
Corey Beshoar and
Steven Perry rolled to a 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot, while Logan garner and
Eli Morela waltzed their way to a 6-2 n at N. 3. The top duo for BC completed the sweep excitingly as
Matthew Leonard and
Mark Gordon teamed up on senior day for a 6-4 win.
Morela and the bottom half of the ladder rolled in singles play as he did not surrender a game in a clean sheet, 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5. Perry picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot, while
Coree Nicely worked a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 6.
The top half of the ladder provided the emotion and excitement. Beshoar was the first off the top half with a gutsy 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 victory at No. 2. Gordon started in a 2-5 hole at the No. 3 spot, but regrouped to take the opening set 7-6 (6). He dropped the second set 1-6, but regrouped over the set break as he did not drop a point until after the first change os sides in the match tiebreak on the way to a 10-1 victory. Leonard was still on court and was locked in a battle at the top spot. The Mechanicsville, Va. native split the opening two sets 3-6, 7-5 to send the match to a tiebreak. Leonard jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the breaker, but two double faults squandered his first two match points. He converted on the third with an acrobatic backhand passing shot to secure the clean sheet for the team at a 10-6 scoreline.
The Eagles are back in action on Monday as they head to Shenandoah.
