GAME 1
The Basics
Score: Bridgewater 5, Mt. Aloysius 2
Records: Bridgewater 3-0; Mt. Aloysius 0-4
How It Happened
- Kylie Jones shut down the Mounties in the top of the first frame, and her offense went to work. Caroline Malandra and Kaelyn Ramsey walked to open the game and a double steal paid off for BC as both were safe at third and second, but the throw from MAC was deflected into the outfield, allowing Malandra to score and make it 1-0. McKenna Mueller followed with a single up the middle and Ramse scored after another throw was well off target, making it 2-0. Mueller worked all the way to third after the error, and Jordan Wise gave up her at bat with a flyout deep enough to drive in Mueller and make it 3-0 after one frame.
- Jones tallied a pair of strikeouts in the top of the second as MAC went own i order. BC added some insurance in the home side of the frame as Skylar Buzbee drew a one-out walk. Ashley Matthews came on to run for her and swiped second before advancing to third on a flyout. Malandra dug in next and continued her hot start with a two-run home run over the wall in left field to make it 5-0. BC looked to add to the lead even more as Ramsey singled and crawled her way to third before she was left stranded.
- The Mounties got on the board in the top of the third with a two-out single with a pair of runners on, but BC ended the rally seconds later as Leiah Branch fired the ball to the dish and Buzbee tagged out the second runner for the Mounties.
- Eash side left runners stranded, and then the pitchers settled in, including a flawless frame from Jones in the top of the fifth, where she struck out the side. Mt. Aloysius broke up the rhythm as Jones caught just a little too much of the plate and Cutri hit a solo home run to left field to make it 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth. The Mounties drew a pair of walks with two outs in the top of the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate, but Jones induced a flyout to Aniella Baldwin in right field to secure the win.
Match Notes
- Jones (1-0) picked up the win in her season debut. The sophomore struck out eight hitters in the complete game effort. Malandra led the offense again with a hit, a walk and a pair of RBI. Mueller had a pair of hits and scored a run as well.
- Koptcho (0-2) took the loss in the circle for Mt. Aloysius. She went the distance and allowed just four hits. Cutri had a pair of hits for the Mounties.
GAME 2
The Basics
Score: Bridgewater 1, McDaniel 0
Records: Bridgewater 4-0; McDaniel 1-1
How It Happened
- McDaniel opened the game with a single to left field, but three-straight outs recorded by Mackenzie Cauthorn in the circle fended off the threat. Malandra reached on an error to open the bottom of the first and was worked all the way around to third, but a strikeout at the dish silenced that threat as well. McDaniel had a two-out single in the top of the second, but a flyout to Mueller at shortstop ended the frame.
- Both teams went down in order before Lily Moyers opened the bottom of the third with a base knock. The sophomore advanced all the way to third, but became the second Eagle stranded 60 feet away from being the game's first run.
- Cauthorn registered a pair of strikeouts in the top of the fourth, and her mates pounced. Mueller opened the home half of the frame with a single and advanced to second after the left fielder bobbled the ball. A sacrifice bunt moved Mueller to third base and Wise drove in her second run of the day with a groundout to the right side, allowing Mueller to score and make it 1-0.
- McDaniel went down in order again in the fifth and BC stranded yet another runner at third base. McDaniel broke up the rhythm with a bunt single to open the sixth inning, but a sharp liner resulted in a double play by Mueller and Moyers to fend off the thret. BC went down in order in the sixth, and McDaniel still trailed by just a run heading to the seventh. Cauthorn struckout the first batter she faced, and looked to have had the second out, but a dropped foul ball extended the at-bat. The Green Terror hitter ended up drawing a walk, and the potential tying run was aboard with one out. The Eagles regrouped and, on cue, Mueller and Moyers combined for a double play yet again, this time on the ground, to secure the win.
Match Notes
- Cauthorn (2-0) went the distance for her second shutout in as many days. She allowed just three hits and one walk in the pitchers' duel, while striking out six. Mueller scored BC's lone run and was a part of two key double plays to secure the win.
- McBride (0-1) took the loss despite a solid outing where she was responsible for just three hits. No Green Terror hitter reached base safely twice.
