HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Tje Bridgewater College men's tennis team fought for a hard-earned 5-2 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene on Sunday night to open PTR Spring Tennis Fest.
The Cougars picked up a win at No. 2, but a 6-4 win from
Corey Beshoar and
Eli Entsminger at the top spot sent the doubles point to court three.
Coree Nicely and
Steven Perry came through for BC with a 7-5 win to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Beshoar opened singles play with a lightning-fast 6-0, 6-0 win at the top spot. Perry fell at the No. 2 slot in a battle 6-3, 2-6, 9-11, but
Levi Waidelich turned the tide for BC with a gritty 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 victory at No. 3 to make it a 3-1 Eagles' lead. MVNU picked up a win at No. 4, but it was Entminger that came up clutch. The rookie rolled after a tight opening set to pick up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No.5 to clinch the match win. Nicely added to the effort as he picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 6 to round out the 5-2 win.
BC is back in action on Tuesday morning against St. Vincent at the historic Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
