HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Mount Vernon Nazerene 4-3 on Sunday in its first match of spring break.
The Cougars forfeited the third double match and took a win on court one. The doubles point came down to the wire as
Kira Doyne and
Macy Harris battled to a tiebreak before falling 6-7 (6) to hand the point to MVNU.
MVNU added to the lead with wins at the top two spots but a gritty effort from
Regan Witt kept BC's hopes alive. Witt dropped the opening set 3-6, but battled back to take the second 7-6 (4) and force a match tiebreak. Witt had to dig deep and did so as the rookie was victories in the breaker 12-10. The Cougars picked up a win on court 5 to clinch the team win, but Harris added a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 to round out the action.
BC is back in action on Tuesday against Waynesburg at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis as part of PTR Spring Tennis Fest.
