BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Randolph-Macon 7-0 on Friday evening.
The Yellow Jackets opened by sweeping doubles action to take a 1-0 lead heading to singles play.
Randolph-Macon continued to roll in singles play, but
Carson Cale and
Sarah Slagle had something to say about that. Cale battled hard in the opening set of her match at No. 4 as she fell 3-6, 0-6. Slagle dropped the opening set at the top spot 1-6 before she rallied to start the second stanza. The sophomore took an early lead in the second set, and the two foes traded punches before Slagle served for the set at 5-4. Her serve was broken, and the match headed towards a tiebreak in the second set. Slagle trailed 2-5 in the breaker, but rallied back and saved four match points before winning the tiebreak 9-7. The top spot then went to a match tiebreak, and Slagle led 4-3, but a run by the Yellow Jackets led to a 1-6, 7-6(7), 7-10 finish.
The Eagles wrap up the campaign on Saturday against Shenandoah at home.
