SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The Bridgewater College riding team picked up a big win Sunday with a strong effort at the Lynchburg IHSA show hosted by Sweet Briar College.
The Eagles posted a near-perfect score, tallying 47 points to easily outdistance second-place Hollins with 36. A perfect score is 49. The Bridgewater team had a 47, with six division wins and one second place.
James Madison was third with 28, followed by Randolph with 27, University of Virginia with 26, Washington and Lee with 22, Lynchburg with 20 and Roanoke with 13.
The Eagles have gained 40 points in the past two shows on regional leader Randolph College. The Eagles have moved into second place in the region standings and trail Randolph by 18 points out with one show remaining.
Michael Golinowski started the day by winning both the Open over fences and Open on the flat classes, qualifying him for the individual regional championship. Those solid ribbons also earned him High Point rider.
Laurin Watts showed for the team in Intermediate over fences and Samantha Hawrysko was third in Intermediate Over fences as an individual. Megan Heffernan won the Intermediate on the flat division for team points.
Katelyn Dugan earned first place in Novice over fences while Isabel Ammendolia placed first in Novice on the flat, both for team standings. Katie Dunnock earned fourth place as an individual in Novice on the flat.
Hannah Foster had a strong second place in the Advanced Walk Trot Canter division for the team, The showing also qualified her as an individual for regionals.
Jessica Goodman wrapped up the day strong with a win in Walk Trot for team points.
